CNN and Media Capital Group have signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of the Portuguese version of the news channel
The memorandum is the first step towards obtaining a licensing agreement for the new channel operated and programmed by the Portuguese media group. The memorandum of understanding also provides for “training, consultancy and access to content from CNN‘s entire portfolio”, said Media Capital in a statement
The birth of CNN Portugal is dependent on “discussion with the regulatory authorities and the fulfilment of activities”. “With this agreement a new chapter is opened in the history of television in Portugal, as it is a partnership with one of the most innovative, influential and prestigious television channels worldwide”, adds the Portuguese media group, without giving any information about the future of TVI 24 within the group
CNN holds several versions worldwide, either directly from the North American channel WarnerMedia or through local partnerships. Currently, CNN already has a version in Portuguese: CNN Brasil appeared in 2020, broadcasting to the whole world through the internet. In November of the same year, the Brazilian version was considered by several polls to be the most exempt in terms of information.
