Cofina Media is going ahead with a collective dismissal that will cover 26 professionals. According to the digital edition of weekly Expresso, the group that owns Correio da Manhã, CMTV, Record and Negócios justifies the decision with “market reasons”

It is not the first time that the media based in Luciana Stegagno Picchio street receives this news: in 2017, 64 workers were also covered by collective dismissal

This time, the 26 workers are mainly from the support areas, i.e. image treatment, proofreading, documentalists and photography. According to Cofina, part of these functions can be done in an automated way. However, the collective dismissal also includes journalists from CM and Negócios and members of the commercial department

In addition to “market reasons”, the group also claims there is a “need to restructure its production organisation”. Despite a 55 million euro reduction in operating costs, between 2010 and 2020, Cofina’s revenues fell by 65 million. The reduction in operating costs is therefore insufficient in view of the reduction in activity

It is now up to the workers to organise a five-strong committee to represent themselves on 21 April for an “information and negotiation meeting”
