The museums reopened this Monday, following the second phase of lockdown in Portugal, and in Viana do Castelo the occasion was used by the municipal museums to inaugurate new exhibitions

The Museum of Traje has the exhibition “Viana do Castelo – The professions of the last century”, a photo and text exhibition in which “professions of the last century are evoked, some of which are already extinct and others that, over the years, have been modified”, the municipality said in a statement. Besides, this museum also has a new permanent exhibition: “Traje: Memories in Time” takes the visitor through the history of the typical Viennese costume. “The exhibition presents a chronology of the costumes, from the 19th century to the 21st century, highlighting the artistic installation of a manual loom connecting floor 0 to floor 1”.

Another exhibition in Viana do Castelo is the work of Galician photographer Manuel Filgueira Tilde. Born in 1866 in Pontevedra, Tilde ended up living in Viana for over fifty years where he died in 1955. “Viana do Castelo – The city, Past and Present (photographic perspectives)” is simultaneously at the Museum of Decorative Arts and at the former Paços do Concelho (Town Hall).

Finally, the Gil Eannes Ship hosts “Águas da Memória – Imagem de Arquivo”. The exhibition is on display at the Centre of Memory, Identity and Image

At this moment, the entrance in the municipal museums of Viana do Castelo is free. The measure will remain, at least, until June 30
