The Money Museum exhibition “Currency, Faith and Politics: Coins and Medals from the Vatican” (“Moeda, Fé e Política: Moedas e Medalhas do Vaticano” in portuguese) is also available online.
Through five short videos, available on YouTube, all those who want to visit this exhibition can now do so in a virtual way. It is recalled that the museums are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each episode allows a “guided tour of the exhibition and each of its nuclei”. All episodes are available on the Bank of Portugal website
Considered as “one of the most important temporary exhibitions that the museum has ever organised”, this exhibition, inaugurated in November 2020 in collaboration with the Vatican Library, can be viewed as a “dialogue between pieces from the Vatican Apostolic Library, the Banco de Portugal and various Portuguese collections”. Altogether, the exhibition is divided into four themes: “currency in the universe of the Gospels, monetary issues of the Holy See, political and diplomatic relations between Portugal and the Holy See and, finally, the role of coins and medals in urban munificence promoted by popes and kings”, Bank of Portugal describes.
